However, the claimed lost-pet-finder/old-couch-aficionado claims they don't want to be conned. They may claim that they want to verify that you're a genuine person and not a bot because they've heard about fraudulent online listings, or they may claim that they want to verify that you're the pet's legitimate owner because they've heard about fake online listings.
So they tell you that they'll send you a Google authentication code through voice or text message, and that you'll have to repeat the number back to them to show you're real.
